El 5 de mayo de 1899 el Gobernador del Estado de Sinaloa, Don Francisco Cañedo asistió a la inauguración del entonces llamado Mercado Manuel Romero Rubio, pero por desacuerdos entre los locatarios no fue hasta un año después, el 5 de mayo de 1900 cuando los mazatlecos por fin tuvieron su mercado.
En mayo de 1999, el Mercado Pino Suárez cumplió 100 años de mantener sus puertas abiertas a los mazatlecos y sus visitantes.
Se localiza entre las calles Benito Juárez y Aquiles Serdán, en el centro de Mazatlán; ahí se puede adquirir fruta, verdura, carne, pescado, abarrotes, artesanías, ropa y muchos otros productos de primera necesidad.
Lo diseñó y construyó Alejandro Loubet, gerente de la Fundición de Sinaloa, por encargo del H. Ayuntamiento.
El nuevo Mercado Municipal de Mazatlán es un edificio construido en hierro y acero, basado en el estilo Art Nouveau y utilizando las mismas técnicas que 7 años antes se emplearon en la Construcción de la Torre Eiffel.
A este nuevo edificio se le denominó Manuel Romero Rubio en honor al entonces Ministro de Gobierno y suegro de Porfirio Diaz..
